Jokes On Linux

Well, i'm in a mood to laugh tonight and I searching google for all kind of funny stuff. Suddenly I came upon one jokes about talking programmer, here is the jokes:

Three male programmers were in the bathroom standing at the urinals.
The first programmer finishes, walks over to the sink to wash his hands.
He then proceeds to dry his hands very carefully. He uses paper towel after paper towel and ensures that every single spot of water on his hands is dried.
Turning to the other two, he says, "At Microsoft, we are trained to be extremely thorough."
The second programmer finishes his task at the urinal and he proceeds to wash his hands. He uses a single paper towel and makes sure that he dries his hands using every available portion of the paper towel.
He turns and says, "At Intel not only are we trained to be extremely thorough but we are also trained to be extremely efficient."
The third programmer finished and walks straight for the door, shouting over his shoulder, "At Sun, we don`t piss on our hands.

Yeah, It was funny. But the most important thing is, this jokes just made my day! Nice one.

What is happening to my 'Melayu'?

Off topic, well I guess a lot of people wouldn't expect me to write anything on Malay Dilemma. Well, this is being seen by our former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in his book "The Malay Dilemma" .

Well nothing much about the latest trauma hit by Malay people here in Malaysia. Well to be honest, I'm sick and tired reading about all those nonsense what is happening here in Malaysia regarding my race which is Malay. I'm maybe not the right person to have a voice on this matters, but believe it or not, I need to help my race in what ever method I'm capable with.

The First Issue: Sex, Video and Socializing

Well, this is what matter the most. Why is my fellow Malay would like to have pre-martial sex and have it recorded for public sharing? Why in the first place, they were thinking about having a pre-martial sex? This is what torment me. Almost all Malay are Muslim, and as a Muslim, we are forbid to do a pre-martial sex no matter what is the reason. Unfortunately, nowadays - Malay people think that it's legal and it's happening everyday.

We are not Jewish, we are Muslim. Maybe we are not a good muslim, but I'm pretty sure all Malay/Muslim know the Hukum of Zina. And why record the sex scene? Is it because of trend? If it is the trend, then the reason is unacceptable.

The Second Issue: Drugs

Well this is the latest issue I've been reading for about couple of years. There are several Malaysian and most of them are Malay who was caught in foreigner country due to illegal drug Smuggling. Why it is always be Malay? As far as I know, this is being plotted by International Syndicate who gain profits from Drug Smuggling. And the best question is, why always Malay student get caught? Are they dumb?

So I urged all my fellow Malay, please use our brain before act. We are a Muslim and we still have Quran to guide us to live a happy life ever after. Everyone made mistake in this life, but it is never too late to turn back and change the way we live.

Goodbye to my Ubuntu

Heh, there is some difficulties I encountered when trying to install windows on one of my Ubuntu partition. Why I want Windows on my laptop? Well - I had to install Windows due to my brother-in-law request to play games with me.

Well I've tried to use cedega to play games with him, but I failed to install the game because we dont have the CDs, the only way to play the game is by copying the source directly from my brother-in-law laptop to mine.

Virtualization? Nope, this one could run windows on my Ubuntu but it cannot play any games because you will experiencing a very laggy system cause by non supported graphic card on virtualbox. Plus - my RAM is not enough to run it.

So I installed Windows on one of my Ubuntu's partiton which I named it "/share" (mostly all my trash files is here) and successfully run Windows after 30-40mins of installation process. Unfortunately, during the partitioning process I do make a noob mistake where I did delete my swap partition :-P (Lame huh)

I repair my grub and everything went well except my system is not as good as before, and I do have some problem with memory management cause I have no swap on the system. Can I make a swap ? Yes I can.. But I am thinking of a Hardy Heron fresh install to replace the old Feisty -> Gutsy -> Hardy System (i'm on my way to burn the hardy CD's on my CD-RW right now).

Off-Topic: Predict People Behavior ?

I've been in a lot of thinking lately about can people read or predict other people behavior ? As I am right now playing through people thought and people reaction over some circumstances, but I still cannot find any strong point to make a concrete solution.

I've read several articles on psychologist and also a few tips and trick on how to get to know people better, but there seem lack of information or direction on how a person could be group into a certain behavior. Well to be honest, people heart is the most unique things to learn about.

Yes! we could say that heart is a noun, but heart lead to something more than people could imagine which is feelings. Feeling is not an object where someone could look or touch. Therefore you could never know what is inside someone's feeling.

So for me, psychologist only make assumption on people behavior based on their reading, learning and experiences in life, but the truth is, no one in this world could really make a solid guess on what peoples' behavior are. But still the best way to get to know people is by experiences.

Bill Gates Hate GPL?

I was surfing early this morning when I stop by a blog and read about the Microsoft current Chairman giving speech on a Pharmaceutical. As I read the post, I was a bit surprise of what Bill Gates said about GPL.

“there is this thing called the GPL, which we disagree with.”

Open source, he said, creates a license “so that nobody can ever improve the software,” he claimed, bemoaning the squandered opportunity for jobs and business. (Yes, Linux fans, we’re aware of how distorted this definition is.) He went back to the analogy of pharmaceuticals: “I think if you invent drugs, you should be able to charge for them,” he said, adding with a shrug: “That may seem radical.”

taken from "Wired Blog Network"
He also said about retirement from Chairman Post in Microsoft and will be focusing on Bill & Melinda Foundation later on. He will be more on public and try to support scientist on finding cure for some illness such as HIV.

What a day huh, he seem to not understand the GPL at all. But by the way, it's nice to see him thinking about retirement, and maybe it will give a good improvement on the Windows OS itself. Business is not wrong, but client should received products according the the price. RM 300-RM600 for a troublesome Operating System? I'd say "NO WAY"

*Updated: You can read the original article about this issue here. Sorry for the difficulties.

A New Domain For this Blog

Hey, I have some comments from my friends to change and use my own domain instead of using http://blablabla.blogspot.com to my domain. So I accept their advise and buy a new domain for a cheap price from Sumardi.

So now I would like to announce that my blog has minor change in URL which formerly http://gunbladeiv.blogspot.com has change to http://blog.gunbladeiv.com. So please change all the feed subscriber and bookmarks from blogspot to gunbladeiv.

"Hope For A New Beginning"

Yeah, I would like to start over again to promote my blog for people to recognize and know my blog existence. Even though I'll lost all my traffic history when changing to own domain, but i hope it will be better in the future.

Thanks for those who read my blog and subscribe it through feeds and thanks for those who read my blog just to gain information. So please remember to change to:

Off Topic: Nice site to visit

I've been looking for a site which can make me wants/eager to visit everyday. So I found out there is one which is a little bit interesting and keep updating each and everyday. I wonder if you've visit the site or not. But here is my oppinion.

About the site:
Josh and Nina are two friends. Every day, they each take a photo. Operating under a pact of absolute secrecy, neither knows what the other is working on. Each morning, they post their photos on Minty Forest side by side. The results are often surprising — not least to the photographers themselves.

An experiment in blind-collaboration, the coupled images of the MintyForest project are explorations of both creative and personal synchronicity — as subject matter, color palette, and technique are compared and contrasted anew with each day. (It’s also an excuse for Josh and Nina to use their shiny new cameras more often.)

Taken from Minty Forest

Here is the sneak peek of the website if you would like to have a look. I recommend the site for people who like to see beautiful shot taken by two person side by side. Are they a good photographer? Nope they dont - But they do took a lot of nice pictures about anything surround them.

Here is the link to the Minty Forest Site. And keep up the good work you guys.

LOLcode Programming

I woke up when my girlfriend sms me "morning" . So I go to my laptop and start my day with surfing. So I start surfing on my new router's modification. But I found something interesting on one of the open blog on the net, It's called LOLCode.

So I start wondering what is LOLcode is all about, I start reading and go read more on the link given. Found out, that LOLcode is actually fun to play with. It's a silly programming based on 1337-speak(gamers/hackers slang)

There is an official site for LOLcode. This language has turned into a Programming Language called LOLCode for which there are already at least TWO .NET implementations. So here is the LOLcode example:

HAI
CAN HAS STDIO?
I HAS A VAR
IM IN YR LOOP
UP VAR!!1
VISIBLE VAR
IZ VAR BIGGER THAN 10? KTHXBYE
IM OUTTA YR LOOP
KTHXBYE
Funny isnt it? maybe you would like to try it for your self, but is has too many keyword that hard to understand unless someone explain it to you. So happy coding guys~!

LIFE: What a joke I did ...

To be honest, this is the silly mistake I've ever made since becoming an active webmaster for several site. The mistake is unforgivable cause as a webmaster you have to be aware of bandwidth usage of your site.

Lesson learn, dont host image on a free site such as Fileden, Photobucket and etc cause once the bandwidth exceed, your site will get kantoi like one of site under my management.

Here is the screenshot taken early this morning.

More over, i'm not the first person to notice that there is image cant be displayed due to bandwidth problem, it's the visitors complain. :( maybe i just not good enough to manage such big site.

LIFE: My unfinished work~!(setting up linux home server)

Actually, some people wondering why someone need a home server. As for me, but sometime when we caught on situation where the homeserver is the solution.. then you'll notice that Home Server is quite important nowadays. The digital era has hit Malaysia for about 2 years now where everyone is connected to the internet, and sharing a lot of stuffs.

why do we need a homeserver? have you ever confront with the situation below?

  • You have 2 or more computers at home with files fragmented between them and multiple copies of multiple files (music/movies/docs) spread all over the place?
  • You are a compulsive downloader and have accounts to multiple private trackers. Your primary beast machine runs 24X7 guzzling power and dissipating heat only to use like 0.1% of its processing capabilities while downloading
  • You have often felt the need to gain access to some of the files at your home while visiting friends/colleagues. Like, ” Oh, I wish I could show you the pics I took in the last office party…If only I had remembered to carry them in my pen-drive”
  • You are at office and someone is raving about a new album and you wish you could hear it the moment you hit home
  • you are stuck in a traffic jam and realize you forgot to start that all important DivX to mp4 conversion for a bunch of videos
If you have confront with the situation, then a home server is a possible solution. You dont have to spend RM1000++ to build a good server at your house. Not with linux Operating system I think. So I'm doing an individual project to setup a server at my house which will serve me as a file server, webserver and ftp server(or maybe sftp/ssh).

So there is a lot of work I must plan and carefully observe as this is my first server which I made from scratch. And for the 1st step- I already bought some of the stuff:
  • A pentium 4 processor 3.0Ghz
  • SATA Hardisk 160GB
  • DDR1 RAM 2 GB ( 1pc of 1GB and 2 pcs of 512MB) <-- currently planning to sell this things and buy DDR2 RAM.
  • NIC (3 COM)
  • Casing+power supply
  • DVD-Writer (which is not needed on a server)
And all this stuff i bought for RM380/= which I made a deal to pay it two times. Thanks to Slamdunk for the cheap hardware. HAHA.. So all i need to do is find a motherboard which can support my proccessor and if possible support DDR1 as well, so that i wont have to buy a new DDR2(cause nowadays, board with DDR1 support is hard to find in the selling market)

So I'll update the progress as soon as I make some progress with the hardware.

I wonder what OS should I use for the server. I've been thinking some operating system which I have tried and learn. I need opinion on the OS to use:
  • Ubuntu Linux
  • Debian
  • Crux
  • OpenBSD
  • FreeBSD
  • and sorry no space for windows.
Which one is the most suitable? erm.. i wonder..

And this is the current progress and cost I have spend for the home server:

1. Item bought :
  • Processor 3.0Ghz P4
  • Sata Hardisk 160gb
  • 2gb DDR1 RAM
  • DVD writer
  • Casing + PSU
2. Cost Spent:
  • RM 200 + RM 180(on the next month)
3. OS to be used on server:
  • Still thinking

LIFE: Changes need to be done

Yesterday, one of my friend came by to gave me his pc which I bought yesterday. He came and hang out with me for a while at Setiawangsa. We chat and talk a little bit about Linux and BSD things.

Suddenly he willing to gave advise about linux/bsd on how to master the OS structure, and the critical part where i should learn and master in order to gain full advantage of linux/bsd. The magic word is "CLI(Command Line Interface)".

All this while, I kept on doing something more on desktop decoration, cause it's viewable. I like my desktop to be beautiful but the truth is, it's not that important compared to the actual used of linux/bsd operating system CLI. Yeah, I have to admit that I know nothing about the CLI/Shell scripting/programming. All this while, I just know how to use command such as "ls, mkdir, chmod, mv, rm and etc" which is not the critical part of shell command.

But my friend show me how powerful the command line can be with a simple scripting. We can do all things from the shell if we know how to script the shell command properly. There are several command such as while, for , xargs which i not master yet. So this is the time.

I need to start learning about shell programming from now. So I need to stop/decrease playing with my desktop deco right now and start googling on shell scripting.

Anyway thanks to Slamdunk for the precious advise.

LIFE: What will happen if Company shutdown?

I'm having a big trouble right now. I was happy to have my internship at Grand Technology Resources, Malaysia. But, I went to lunch with a bunch of my office colleagues at Cosway, suddenly one of the permanent staff at GTR said something about company is going to shut down.

I was a bit surprise. I thought he might be joking around. I have to asked him to seek the truth, and the truth is he is not joking. He just do not know when the company is going to be shut down.

So, the main thing keep playing in my mind is, where should I go for my internship? Do I have to wait for the next semester to retake my internship? Do I have to delayed my Diploma Graduation just because of this company suck in the middle of nowhere?

I need a confirmation whether this company is going down or not, so I can take a proper action by calling my Polytechnic for options or actions. Really need a solid mind right now to be focus on life. Why this should happen to me at this moment when I've done nothing wrong?
